The seat of leadership means that you are a leader by default. Therefore, just Jesus a prayer leader must be able to teach people how to pray.
Hosea 4:6 says” My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge because thou hast rejected knowledge; I will also reject thee; that thou shall be no priest to me; seeing how thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.”
At a minimum a prayer leader should have a grasp of:

A prayer leader must be knowledgeable in each and be ready to teach.
There’s a cost for following God’s instructions. There is also a price to pay if you want an anointing to lead in prayer. More accurately there is a more price to pay for the anointing.
In order to be a man of prayer, in order to lead a prayer ministry, in order to be used by God in the vein of prayer, there is a hefty price to be prayed. You can never stop praying. If you want to lead a prayer ministry you must have a consistent personal prayer life. There are no short cuts. There may be times when you are tempted not to pray, but remember, when there is no prayer there is no power. There is always a price to pay if you want to become a person of prayer.
Psalm 127:1 tells us Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who built it, unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain.
The hard work of building a ministry of prayer requires prayer. There is no way around it. In fact, every successful Christian endeavor occurs because somebody paid the price. You must pay the price to get into the hearts of men. You must pay the price, so God touches a leader. You must pay the price to get the missing pieces on your team. You will suffer burnout and open the door for the enemy to sow confusion. Prayer is not just reserved for the building phase; it is a catalyst for a powerful prayer ministry. There are five pillars in place if there is going to be a strong prayer ministry.
- A leader responsible for prayer
- An official prayer department overseeing prayer
- Corporate prayer meetings
- Teaching about prayer
- A culture of prayer
Each prayer ministry will look different depending on the size of the group, however, regardless of the size, the ultimate goal is to be a ministry that never stops praying. Where is God taking this ministry, it is imperative that prayer is one of our major strengths. Prayer must be a pillar in this world. Where God is taking you as an individual of prayer, it is vital that you be in a prayer environment. Your vision is too big not to be in a praying environment . You know you too well not be in a praying environment. In your private time you should be praying for the church and the world. There are a few things to consider when serving as a prayer leader:
- Know your audience helps determine the prayer If the audience looks lost it could mean you were leading at a level that left your audience behind. Always lead at level a little above your audience.
- Be prayed up. Spend time alone with God before you lead his people. Let God deal with Be as healthy( spirit, soul, and body ) as you possibly can when leading God’s people. Grow, learn, and keep going after God in your personal life.
- Plan! Plan! Plan! Prayerfully plan every time you lead a prayer meeting. Go into a prayer meeting with God’s plan.
Once you know what God wants to pray, you work on tailoring it based on your audience. God may sometimes edit his plan at the last minute, and that’s ok, because it is his plan. Yet, that does not mean you should wait to get to the meeting to see what God is going to do. Plan, practice, and leave room for the Holy Spirit to edit.
- Focus on God’s Glory. Many people do not understand the level of work it takes to oversee this work of a vibrant prayer ministry. They simply do not value So, focus on doing everything for God’s Glory. God knows how to compensate everyone who works for him.
With today’s technology there are zero reasons why the people of God cannot come together in prayer. Virtual prayer rooms are here to stay, and virtual prayer rooms can be just as powerful as regular prayer rooms, but it takes some work to make it happen. Here are a few important points related to virtual prayer rooms:
- Limit distractions. In the virtual prayer room, you want to make sure distractions are limited. This includes background noise, pictures, uninvited guests, etc. The virtual prayer room should be considered Holy ground and treated with respect and a level of reverence.
- Training. Whenever something is newly implemented, you want to train your people and have the procedures in There are many seasoned prayer warriors who are not that keen on technology. Schedule a special training for all the people who are not familiar with technology. This will go a long way towards making sure that no one feels left out.
- Planning is key to having success using virtual prayer Plan out every detail of the virtual prayer meeting to ensure that it runs smoothly and that the people are to pray more effectively.
- Put prayer in the plan. Spend time in prayer covering technology, people’s ability to use technology, and the feeling of connectedness that people experience even though prayer is happening in a virtual fashion.
- Over every endeavor of the prayer Is prayer training and development available in the ministry. What are stories of answered prayers within the ministry?
Create a purpose statement, every prayer ministry should have a purpose statement to keep everyone focused in the same vision. Your purpose statement should clearly articulate the reason that prayer department exists. Create the vision statement, the vision statement should be created based on the advocates vision for the ministry should clearly articulate what you and your leadership team consider to be a prayer ministries identity moving forward. Create a mission statement, the mission statement outlines the future goals of the ministry they should clearly articulate how the vision will be accomplished and stick to 25 words or less. Create an organizational system, so over the national system details roles and responsibilities within the prayer ministry. This includes creating teams assigned to pray for over certain situations and to pray over the ministry.
Develop a plan, like organizational structure, ideas on how to recruit members, and marketing strategy. The market strategy should be based on what works best for your prayer ministry. The launch plan may also include a ministry description, information about the target audience.
Recruitment, at this stage, the prayer leader should recruit team members to help launch and run the ministry. You need to add the right people to your team, recruitment strategies vary, but it is usually a good idea to focus on things that will allow you to evaluate people and new members. Some people should be selected based on having skills necessary to complete the launch.
Develop a prayer strategy for the team your team needs to be connected through prayer, must always remain a priority. A development prayer strategy and a timeline to pray with the team, for example setting a time to come together and pray, for example like the first or the last Wednesday of each month so everyone can be on the same page. Proverbs 15:22 Says “Without consulting and the wise advice plans are frustrated, but the many counselors they are established and succeed “
Set a launch date, it is important because it not only provides an incentive to start the ministry work, but it will build promotions and. momentum for the ministry, and it will market division research the best times to launch the new prayer ministry. Write all the potential launch dates and lists all the pros and cons for each was voted on an approved plan to launch Create a training process. You need to train the people who you recruit on the prayer ministry team. They will need to understand their roles and expectations for their roles. Books, or other resources should the ministry needs. You also need to train people who signed up to become members of the prayer ministry. When and how often will the training take place, when and how to include teaching on ministry core values purpose and mission and vision statements.
“When pride comes disgrace, but humility comes wisdom . The integrity of the upright guides them , but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity” Proverbs 11:2-3
Our biggest mistakes as prayer leaders Not getting counsel from the elders. Season saints are your biggest asset in your life. As gifted as you are understanding that the pastor is our leaders. The pitfall of disappointment, you should build upon what has already been established. Not everyone is cut out for building the stage. The scars and traumas of life will spill over into the ministry if left unchecked. You should build upon what has already been established. Nurture a relationship with a seasoned prayer warrior. Some of them may be younger than you in your age, but older than you in the faith.
Recognize acknowledge and respect their wisdom and counsel about your plans. Always remember that you are on the same team, you have the same enemy, and you have the same goals. As prayer leaders you must understand this is stewardship of responsibility to lead the prayer ministry. The leader never sees themselves as owning the seat. Wearing that leadership mantle loosely and wisely. As an innovative prayer leader your job is to produce, knowing that the seat of leadership does not belong to you. Ignoring communication problems. What failed marriages have in common with ministries, communication problems. Communication problems left unchecked will eat away at the prayer ministry like termites. Communication problems come in many forms. Sometimes it is the people. Many leaders feel like they are great public speakers, so they are especially guilty of missing the fact that they may not be good communicators, sometimes it is the system and not the people. If you know anything about the iPhone, you know that they are certain messages that cannot be delivered to an Android device. Regardless of poor communication skills, production is one of the fastest ways to lose your team.
Not clearly defining roles. A lot of us grew up playing sports. One of the things we learn from sports is that everyone has a role to play the coach has a role. The players have a role, the assistant have a role and when the roles are not clear and if the people do not know what to do, the team physically loses. This is true rather you are talking about sports, marriage, or a prayer ministry. What are the biggest mistakes we can make in the prayer ministry of failing to clearly define the various roles on our team. This causes confusion, wasted time and we end up losing incredible team members.
